Pussy Willow (Salix caprea)
Pussy Willow (Salix caprea)
Come Spring, when candyfloss is on the bough,
Pale green and sweet; April is coming now.
Spun gold by Nature’s sprinkling of its tips,
It leaves a gilt on pale, translucent lips.
In the cool morning, through the rising mist,
It seems as though the air is lightly kissed
By such confection, such perfection held
On branching lollypops, which blithely meld
Their colours to a cloud of pearly green;
A burst of life where nothing once had been.
A few brief days, by warming breezes beaten.
Licked fingertips, where fairy folk have eaten.
